DIMAPUR, OCT 30 (MExN): A day ahead of the ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’, coinciding with the birthday of the ‘Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’, Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta referred to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, who was the first Home Minister of free India and who was considered as the architect of good governance.
Stating that corruption, though as old as civilization, is like a cancer that eats into the vitals of our society, and needs to be tackled with a firm hand, Datta in his message observed that corruption is the antithesis of clean and transparent governance that is responsive to public needs. “Both preventive and punitive action is required to be taken to check and eliminate this penance”, he stated.
“It is expected that the observance of the Vigilance Awareness Week will draw attention of the whole society to the menace of corruption. Corruption can destroy the vitality of a nation and its people. In the long run, it harms everyone, including the corrupt. It creates massive distortions within the economy. It militates against justice and efficiency. The crime of corruption is perhaps the most widespread and pervasive of all crimes in our country. We must support all organizations and individuals, both within and outside the Government, engaged in fighting this cancer”, the Governor exhorted.
On the occasion of the observance of this year’s Vigilance Awareness Week, Datta extended his best wishes to the Vigilance Commission of Nagaland, and hoped that it will re-dedicate itself to the onerous task of elimination of corruption in Nagaland.
