Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer V Shashank Shekhar today said that the final stage of counting of the entire election process has gone smoothly.

Communicating the formal declaration of the result through a press conference, he said that the counting has gone well except for one small incident in 6th Tenning where there was a slight law and order issue but nothing serious.

He said police had to resort to teargas shelling and after that the mob dispersed and the situation was brought under control.

Inspector General of Police (Range) and State Police Nodal Officer for Elections, Limasunep Jamir said the general law and order situation on counting day has been peaceful, barring one incident where police had to resort to teargas shelling because a mob had gathered and demanded re-count which was not mandated as per the direction of ECI.

He said that no injury has been reported and the situation has been brought under control as of now.

He appealed to all the citizens of the state not to take law into their own hands and to maintain peace and tranquility.

Meanwhile, Shekhar informed that the final election voting percentage in Nagaland stands at 86.72% with men at 85.6% and women at 87.85%.
