COVID-19: Positivity rate continues to remains low in Nagaland

The COVID-19 sample positivity rate in Nagaland was below 5% for fifth consecutive week till March 25, official data released on Saturday informed. 

During the March 19-25 period, 11 new cases were detected out of 2,159 samples tested, indicating a weekly sample positivity rate of 0.5%, stated the latest COVID-19 Weekly Bulletin issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, Department Of Health And Family Welfare, Nagaland on March 26. 

There were just 20 active cases in the State till March 25, while no new cases were reported from the State on March 26.  

No COVID-19 deaths were reported during the intervening period, it said. However, two new admissions were reported from COVID-19 hospitals.

Meanwhile, the bulletin informed that till March 25, more than 15.76 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the state, across all age groups including 667 doses among 12- to 14-year-old children.

In the 18 years of age and above category, 51% of eligible beneficiaries have received both doses of vaccine, the bulletin further highlighted. 

“Vaccines are working very well against hospitalizations and deaths, but effectiveness decreases over time. Hence, 3rd dose is recommended for those at high risk- 60 plus elderly with comorbidities and healthcare/frontline workers after 9 months of 2nd dose,” it underscored. 

A total of 92,279 doses have been administered in the 15–18 years age group, and 30,039 persons in the cohort have received double doses representing 21% of the eligible beneficiaries, the bulletin said. 

A total 667 children between 12-14 years have also received the Corbevax vaccine, it added.
