COVID-19 recoveries on the rise in Meghalaya

Meghalaya has been witnessing a high rate of recoveries of COVID-19 in the past few weeks.

Even on Monday, the state has recorded 117 recoveries of COVID-19, pushing the total recoveries to over 8,500. 

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said that 83 persons were declared recovered in East Khasi Hills district, 14 Ri Bhoi district, 8 South Garo Hills district, 5 West Garo Hills district, 5 West Jaintia Hills district, 1 East Jaintia Hills district and 1 North Garo Hills district.

Meanwhile, the state recorded 71 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Of the 71 new cases detected, Dr War said 36 are in West Jaintia Hills, 29 East Khasi Hills, 2 Ri Bhoi, 2 West Garo Hills, 1 East Garo Hills and 1 North Garo Hills.

The state has detected a total of 9,678 COVID-19 out of which 1,009 are active cases, 8,579 recovered and 90 deaths.

With the high recovery rate in the past few weeks, positive cases of COVID-19 in East Khasi Hills district have reduced to 327 that include 24 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 303 civilians.

However, districts like Ri Bhoi have been witnessing a surge in the number of positive cases of COVID-19 at 258, followed by West Garo Hills 159 and West Jaintia Hills 101.

Cases in East Garo Hills have also increased to 58 and West Khasi Hills to 51 while those with the least cases include East Jaintia Hills 21, North Garo Hills 16, South Garo Hills 9, South West Garo Hills 6 and South West Khasi Hills 3. 

 “Till date, swab samples of 2,03,556 persons have been tested of which 1,93,878 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

There are 54,244 entrants from outside the state.
