CPO responds to JAC statement

Dimapur, May 25 (MexN):  The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) today responding to the press statement of general secretary JAC that appeared in local dailies said the CPO and in particular Theja Therieh “one of the authorized petitioners of PIL” had been needlessly dragged into the controversy questioning the locus standi.

Yesonu Veyie, president of CPO said that the “JAC should not try to misguide or confuse the public by making such unwarranted statements and comment on the proceedings of the court.”

It may be recalled that the Delimitation Commission had filed SLP against Chakhesang Public Organisation PIL 67/06 of the Gauhati High Court interim order restraining delimitation exercises in the State of Nagaland.

Yesonu stated that “the CPO after observing necessary services was represented by counsels as respondents in the SLP.”

“In the mean time the Delimitation Commission prayed for withdrawal of SLP in view of the Delimitation Amendment Act 2008 (No. 9 of 2008) and the Court was pleased to dismiss the matter. It may be made known that the JAC should not try to misguide or confuse the public by making such unwarranted statements and comment on the proceedings of the court.”

Moreover, CPO noted that, if the locus standi of the petitioners are questionable, they are at liberty to do so in the court of law. “It is most judicious on the part of the petitioners to highlight to the public the exact position of the case as it is a public interest litigation.”

The CPO expressed delight to know that the JAC acknowledged withdrawal of the SLP by Delimitation “as victory and in the event of such, there appears to be no aggrieving party in the matter.”

CPO further expressed hope that the apex court would deliver justice as is desired by all concerned.
