MALIGAON, JUNE 18 (MExN): The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northeast Frontier Circle, Kolkata, Sumeet Singhal, has begun the statutory inspection of the newly constructed Broad Gauge (BG) double-line sections between Katihar–Kuretha and Katihar–Sonaili under the Katihar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
According to a press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the inspection commenced on June 17 and will continue until June 19. The sections form part of the Katihar–Kumedpur and Katihar–Mukuria New Double Line Projects. The 64.14-km project aims to enhance rail capacity and operational efficiency in the region. It includes the construction of two important bridges, 27 major bridges and 23 minor bridges, along with associated railway infrastructure. Once completed, the double-line corridor will connect 16 railway stations, improving train operations, increasing line capacity, reducing congestion and facilitating smoother movement of passenger and freight trains across the Katihar Division.
During the inspection, the CRS is examining station infrastructure, track geometry, bridges, signalling and telecommunication systems, electrical installations, safety arrangements and other railway assets. The programme also includes inspections of field installations and stations along the route.
As part of the statutory process, speed trials are being conducted to assess the operational safety, stability and readiness of the newly laid sections before they are commissioned.
