DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11 (MExN): The Chang Students' Conference (CSC) has submitted a memorandum to the Directorate of Higher Education appealing that the government takes action to address the grievances of the students of Sao Chang College, Tuensang. The CSC referred to the memorandum submitted by the students of the college and said that the grievances of the college and the students are “genuine and needs to be addressed at the earliest.”
It noted that Sao Chang College has been functioning without a Principal for almost four years. A principal was deployed for just 8/9 months and transferred without replacement, it informed, adding that this has created untold hardships in the functioning of the college administration. It said that deployment of a Principal at the college is an immediate need.
The CSC also said that while the college has a commendable number of students enrolled, since the inception of the college till date, it has been facing acute shortage of teaching faculties. It informed that the college has served several representations to the department pertaining to the issue, but to no avail.
It informed that the college has immediate need of three Assistant Professors in the English Department, two Assistant Professors in the Political Science Department, one Assistant Professor in the Economics Department, tree Assistant Professors in the Math Department, two Assistant Professors in the Zoology Department, two Assistant Professors in the Physics Department, one Assistant Professor in the Botany Department, and one Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department.
It also noted that there are immediate needs in the non teaching staff as well, for which representations have been submitted by the college to the department. There is need for an Assistant Librarian and a Library Attendant.
The CSC also demanded immediate allocation of college bus. The conference drew attention regarding the shortage of college buses, and informed that the college is situated 7 km away from Tuensang Town and with a huge number of student enrolment (668), the faculties and students face untold hardship in attending the college.
Currently the college has only four buses which are outdated and on verge of collapse, and those buses can accommodate a maximum of 150 students. While the capacity of one bus is 35 to 40, due to shortage, they carry beyond their capacity (i.e 76-80 students per bus). “Due to the unavailability of buses, some students could not even write the recently conducted internal exam.
Till date the college is running on alternate class system and as a result the students and the teaching faculties cannot cope up with the syllabus,” the CSC informed.
Further, it called for up-gradation of the Science laboratory. It said that the introduction of NEP and CBCS has bestowed a light over the education system today. “With its new initiative, the students' to opt for major paper is a must. However, with the shortage of teaching faculties and with the non-availability of lab equipments, the college cannot provide major subject to the students,” the CSC stated.
The conference appealed to the department to act on the matter by September 20, failing which, it would be forced to serve an ultimatum.
