Kohima, May 13 (MExN):  The Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU), in its ongoing pursuit of justice and the rights of the people, has entered the second phase of agitation concerning the “inordinate delay in the construction of NH-29 (Kohima to Jessami) Road – Package-2.”

Earlier on May 11, the Union had announced the imposition of restrictions, effective from May 12, on the movement of vehicles belonging to NHIDCL, EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd, and Government-registered vehicles—except those exempted.

In a statement on May 12, the CSU informed that Medical Services, Administrative Services, Fire and Emergency Services, Police and Paramilitary Forces, and Power and PHE Department Staff on duty are exempted from the current restriction.

Despite these directives, the CSU expressed dismay over the continued apathy and silence of the NHIDCL and the contractor, “even though the matter has remained unresolved for over six months.”

Moreover, there have been repeated violations of the ban, with vehicles under the prohibited category continuing to ply the route, the CSU stated, adding that as of now, a total of 12 vehicles have been seized—11 belonging to NHIDCL and 1 Government-registered vehicle.

Terming this as a blatant disregard for the Union's directives, the CSU sternly cautioned that any further unauthorised vehicular movement will be met with intensified action. The agitation will continue with full force until the demands of the Union are duly addressed, it asserted.

Further, the CSU stated that the implementing agency will be responsible for any untoward incidents or consequences arising along the NH-29 Road Package-2 stretch from Chakhabama to Kikrüma issue.
