CTC warns against encroachment

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 18 (MExN): The Chumoukedima Town Council (CTC) has issued a fresh notification urging residents to respect demarcated spaces for public infrastructure within the town. The directive, dated November 17, 2024, reinforces earlier orders from 2017 and builds upon resolutions passed in 1969, 1974, 1995, and subsequent notifications in 2006 and 2011.

The notification specifies clear guidelines for maintaining space along public roads, footpaths, and areas designated for essential utilities such as drainage, electric posts, and pipelines. For areas along the National Highway, a clearance of 45 feet from the center of the road on both sides, totaling 90 feet, is required. Main town roads are to maintain a 20-foot clearance on each side from the center, while approach roads under the town council’s jurisdiction must allow for a distance of 15 or 10 feet depending on the road’s location. Single-lane colony roads must maintain a six-foot clearance on both sides.

The council has warned that any encroachment into these reserved spaces will invite strict action, including forceful eviction and demolition of unauthorized structures. Defaulters have been cautioned that they risk losing property and investments if they fail to comply. The guidelines, originally reserved by the Chumoukedima Village authority before the area attained town status, aim to improve the quality of life for all residents.
