Cultural extravaganza marks day-2 of Hornbill Festival

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 2 (MExN): The morning session of the cultural programme on the 2nd day of Hornbill was hosted by Deputy Chief Minister, Planning & Transformation, National Highway, TR Zeliang and Advisor, Tribal affairs and Election, Tovihoto Ayemi along with MLA, A Pongshi Phom as the co-host.  Dr Victor Echeverri Jaramillo, Ambassador of Colombia to India also graced the cultural programme as a guest.

The cultural programme featured special performances by the Zeliang cultural troupe, Yimkhiung cultural troupe, Sumi cultural troupe, Kachari cultural troupe, Sangtam cultural troup, Rengma cultural troupe, Pochury Cultural troupe, Phom cultural troupe and Lotha cultural troupe showcased their rich culture.

The evening session of the cultural programme was marked by a vibrant cultural extravaganza of the various tribes which includes Tikhir cultural troupe, Kuki cultural troupe, Chakhesang cultural troupe, Konyak cultural troupe, Khiamniungan cultural troupe, Ao cultural troupe, Garo cultural troupe, Chang cultural troupe and Angami cultural troupe.

The cultural extravaganza which was held under the theme "Cultural Connect" witnessed the presence of Dy. Chief Minister, Home & Border Affairs, Yanthungo Patton as the host while Advisor Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum and MLA, P Longon were the co-host. Honoured Guests were Harinder Bir Singh Gill, IRS, Zonal Member Central Board of Direct Taxes and SM. Smita Srivastava, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West-Bengal & Sikkim.

Later, after the cultural show, a play on Income Tax awareness was performed by Dreamz Unlimited.

Vlog contest on the theme ‘Feathers of Hornbill Festival’ 
As part of the Hornbill Festival 2023, the Department of Information & Public Relations is organising a Vlog contest on the theme ‘Feathers of Hornbill Festival.’ Interested participants may make a one minute Vlog and submit in digital format (landscape) along with name and contact number to diprvlog@gmail.com (via Google drive) by December 8. Results of the winners will be declared on December 9.

Participants can capture the people, music, food, fashion, festival, tradition and culture. The entry is free for all. For further query, one may contact 9856197313, 7005379296 during office hours, a DIPR report informed.

CM releases Mmhonlumo Kikon's His Majesty's Headhunters
Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio released the book "His Majesty's Headhunters", written by Mmhonlumo Kikon at WWII Museum, Kisama on  December 2. 

Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio congratulating Kikon on his book stated that writing is about sharing one's knowledge. He said that the book will be a knowledge repository for the generations to come. He said that a book about the British colonial Nagas written by a local author will give a different perception unlike the ones written by others and underlined the importance of documenting the Naga's side of the story.

Rio also shared his own British-Japanese stories passed on to him by his parents and relatives. 

Author, Mmhonlumo Kikon giving a background on the book stated that the book is about the people and stories from the Naga's perspective. He also highlighted that it is on the period of the British occupation starting from 1832. He also shed a light on the impact on modern Nagaland due to the British colonisation and the Japanese invasion. Advisor to CM and Chairman IDAN, Abu Metha chaired the programme.
