A culvert near the PWD-Zuvotong Colony or District Hospital road collapsed following heavy rainfall on the night of February 21, leaving a vital route connecting the District Civil Hospital with Wokha Main Town impassable. This disruption has caused significant inconvenience to residents, patients, and villagers, especially those residing to the south of Wokha.

The collapse has resulted in severe transportation challenges, with the primary route now blocked, complicating emergency services and everyday travel. Commuters who rely on this route are left with limited alternatives. The ongoing repair work on the High School-Molonsu Road further compounds the situation, leaving the only feasible routes as the poorly maintained Bokajan road and the Hospital-Longsa route via the National Highway.

The closure has affected numerous villages, including High School, Molonsu, Vungoju, Meriyan, Totsuyan, Yanthung, Pongidong, Tsungza, Khumtsu, Hankvu, and Longchum. Local residents now face the arduous task of navigating the difficult Bokajan road through Etsuchukha and Zero Point or taking the longer detour to Longsa, significantly increasing travel time.

This roadblock also poses a major concern for emergency medical situations. The disruption of the main access to the District Civil Hospital is particularly alarming, as it delays the provision of urgent healthcare services, putting vulnerable individuals in critical conditions at risk.

In response to the situation, the PWD (R&B) Wokha Division has confirmed that the road was severely impacted by the unexpected downpour on the night of 21 February. The division further clarified that, since 2019, the Urban Development Department has taken over responsibility for the road within the town.

Given the gravity of the situation, residents and concerned citizens are urging the District Administration to take immediate action to restore access and ensure the safety and well-being of all affected individuals.
