CwSN avails assessment camp in Tseminyu

Tseminyu, March 25 (MExN): An assessment camp for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) was conducted at Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC) training hall Tseminyu on March 25. It was organised by District Mission Authority Samagra Shiksha Kohima.

During the cam, 26 students of CwSN from 10 schools attended the assessment camp, comprising of 21 for visually impaired, fourfor locomotor impaired and for hearing impaired, stated a press release issued by Francis Rengma, TOT EBRC Tseminyu.

Tali Jamir, Deputy Mission Director (DMD) SMA in his keynote address said, “All of us are disabled in one or the other ways, and one should not shy away from detecting at an early stage for rectification and further progress in learning.”

Stating the objectives that Inclusive Education for CwSN has been one of the major components under Samagra Shiksha to lay emphasis on improving quality of education for all students. 

The component provides support for various student oriented activities which include identification and assessment of CwSN, provision of aids, appliances, corrective surgeries, Braille books, large print books and uniforms, therapeutic services, development of Teaching-Learning Material (TLM), assistive devices and equipments, environment building and orientation programme to create positive attitude and awareness about nature and needs of CWSN, purchase/development of instructional materials, in-service training of special educators and general teachers on curriculum adaptation, stipend for girls with special needs etc. 

The component also emphasizes the implementation of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 for children with special needs. In addition, separate resource support is also made available in order to appropriately address the needs of CWSN within the school.

Yahuto Kath, SDEO Tseminyu impressed upon the teachers, parents guardians and students that “our disabilities should not be taken as liabilities and curses to the family or to the communities”. He reiterated that there should be “change of mindset and proper care and love must be extended to the physically challenged children”. The SDEO exhorted the gathering to develop motivation and confidence amongst each other keeping away inferiority complex through numerous platforms.
