Participants of the cyclothon organised in Kohima on December 21.
KOHIMA, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): A Cyclothon was organized in Kohima Town by the Kohima Smart City and the Kohima Municipal Council in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports on December 21.
This is part of a series of activities under the aegis of Fit India Movement under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to promote fitness and healthy lifestyles across the country. The event was flagged off at Razhu Point via D-Block and culminated outside the KMC/KSCDL Office.
With the campaigns like Fit India and the Cycles for Change Challenge under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Kohima City is seeing an increase in cyclists and reports of higher sales of bicycles inspite of the general perception that cycling is not feasible in hilly places, informed a press release from the CEO Kohima Smart City Development Limited, Kovi Meyase.
He however pointed out that there is the need for carving out dedicated bicycle lanes in the city making it safe for all ages to cycle. Towards this, the Kohima Smart City is undertaking surveys and pilot interventions to encourage cycling in the city and identifying corridors to develop dedicated cycle lanes.
