CYF reiterate CPO resolutions on conservation of biodiversity

Phek, March 7 (MExN): The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) conducted a tour-cum-coordination meeting with all its affiliated villages/towns/units from March 2 to 4, to deliberate on the Chakhesang Public Organisation’s resolutions with regard to conservation of biodiversity.

According to a press release received on Sunday, over the course of the tour and meetings, it was resolved that the villages/towns/units would extend fullest cooperation to strengthen and successful implementation of the resolutions.

The CYF also informed that it had designated the year 2021 as ‘Year of Tree Plantation’ which will be observed on June 5 to coincide with the World Environment Day.

It also listed the various resolutions of the CPO which are implemented by the CYF. 

As per the release, indiscriminate burning of jungle is strictly prohibited and defaulters will be penalized with a fine of Rs 20,000. The CPO resolution also banned collection/extraction of medicinal plants. The penalty for this offence includes a fine of Rs 20,000 and confiscation of the goods by the concerned authority.

Hunting has also been strictly restricted throughout the year along with capturing, coursing, snaring, trapping or baiting of any birds or wild animals.  Any person found carrying weapons, explosives, firearms, poison, snares, traps or apparatus capable of anaesthetizing, decoying, destroying, injuring or killing of birds and wild animals shall be penalised with a fine of Rs 5000 and such equipments/apparatus shall be seized, the release stated.

The resolutions which are imposed in all Chakhesang areas also restricted the use of equipments/apparatus such as battery, generator, chemicals, etc., for fishing. A fine of Rs 5000 will be penalised from the defaulters, which can be enhanced depending on the extent of devastation caused, the release stated while adding that such equipments/apparatus would be seized. On the import of livestock, the resolutions specified that pigs/piglets weighing below 30 kgs can be imported for rearing only, provided that health certificates from the concerned veterinary department is produced to the authority.

Import of pigs/piglets above the prescribed weight has been strictly restricted and defaulters would have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000, irrespective of quantity. The pig(s) must be evacuated from Chakhesang jurisdiction within 24 hours if not will be seized by the concerned authority, it added.

The resolutions further stated that Kapamodzu and Zanubu have been designated as biodiversity reserved forests in order to maintain ecological balance in nature. Logging, indiscriminate burning or any other activities that can disturb the natural habitat is strictly restricted, it added. The CYF meanwhile appealed the public to abide by the resolutions which have been passed for the welfare of the community. The concerned subordinate area, town, village youth presidents are requested to implement the mentioned resolutions in their respective areas, it added.
