KOHIMA (MExN): Nagaland’s Home Minister Thenucho today asserted that the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government is committed to bring peace and normalcy in the State.
Thenucho told the one day assembly session that fear psychosis in the minds of the people has been removed following the installation of the DAN government.
Thenucho claimed that due to the present government efforts, law and order has improved to a large extend and the state was comparatively more peaceful.
He said such an atmosphere had been made possible through the collective effort of both the treasury and opposition benches, the efficiency of law and order agencies, civil societies and all NGOs who had shown their concern for peace.
He said to bring about peaceful atmosphere it was not only his responsibility alone but one in which a collective effort was the need of the hour.
On the Opposition charging the government of keeping ‘helpless’ on the killing of former DGP Hesso Mao, and no arrest made so far, Thenucho said the government’s law and order agencies were on their job.
Thenucho said the government was aware about the cold blood assassination. He said as per his entitlement, he was provided with three bodyguards after his retirement from service.
Thenucho also stated that none of his bodyguards were present when the incident took place.
The Minister also termed the assassination attempt on Xavier Rutsa as a matter of great concern while informing that no arrest had yet been made so far on the miscreants responsible for the shooting. Xavier received one bullet injury on the lower back. Fortunately, Thenucho said, no serious internal damage was there. Rutsa received medical treatment from Oking Hospital, Kohima and was discharged on December 7.
Regarding the abduction and killing of a taxi driver Vilhoukho recently, Thenucho said the state government had taken the matter with the Manipur government and the vehicle has been recovered and 2 accused were arrested in this connection.
The Minister felt that the accused should be handed over to the Nagaland government for dispensing due justice.
On the recent loan demand letter of Rs. 10 lakh served to Minister for Planning & Urban Development Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and two others, Thenucho said the government has arrested a few persons and investigation was going on.
On the economic blockade on Noklak, Thenucho informed that no underground organization had given directives for the economic blockade. He said the government has provided security to the drivers, adding there was no shortage of essential commodities at present there.
Earlier, on being asked whether the government was aware that one of its own Cabinet Minister has been harassed by a faction of the underground faction, the Minister replied “No.”
Thenucho also replied in the negative when asked whether the government was aware that the law and order situation in the State was getting worse day by day.
“The prevailing satisfactory law and order situation speaks of the effective steps undertaken”, Thenucho said on being asked whether any step was being taken to improve law and order situation in the State.
