DAN’s special emphasis on agriculture

Kohima: The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) has been paying special emphasis to the Agriculture and allied sector in Nagaland.

More than 80 per cent of the state population depends on agriculture for their livelihood and business too.

While progress is being made in industrialization, it is in agriculture that the state’s economy will depend on, to grow and expand.

“We have to plan our policy in such a way that agriculture becomes the mainstay of our economy, by not only producing our needs, but also generating increased revenue through surplus, says Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in one of the official functions at Kohima.

The state government has declared the Year 2006 as the Year of farmers. Buy-back Policy of agricultural and horticultural produce has been put in operation in the State as well as APMC having been constituted in every district.

In addition, Nagaland (Regulation of Farm Produce and Marketing) Bill 2005 has been passed.

The organic policy in agriculture and its allied sector has been adopted and the State is moving towards it, an official said.
