A day after Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang launched his official account on the social networking sites- Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, commentators went into over drive to voice their thoughts on the CM ‘s social media handle.
Spicy and unmerciful that social media is infamous for, not all the comments left on the CM’s official pages were tasteful, like for instance, Apong Imchen commented: “make me admin…in case you are planning about online appointments.”
Social media commentators, who have been vociferously voicing out against the apathy of the state government on numerous issues on different social media platforms, were apparently waiting for this moment- to “finally give the Chief Minister some piece of their mind.”
However, in the midst of the trolling, ranting, advises, demands, scorn and brickbats that filled the comments box, the commentators had one common refrain for the CM to take up earnestly and at the earliest--“Repair the deplorable road conditions of Nagaland.”
“Dear CM, kindly start the road construction in Nagaland. It is the need of the hour!..We need you to take development of our basic infrastructure seriously!” Allan Aley commented.
Anyem Konyak Wangsa Naga wrote, “Try to know the grievance of your people. Your car has shock absorber with an upgraded version. And for your people-we have a road that seems like we are travelling on horse.”
“There are no good road conditions in Nagaland, first and foremost, see the road condition please,” urged Alen Polen Nyam, while one Sambewa Jivan Rai wanted the CM to do something about the potholes in Dimapur.
And what’s more, issues/grievances that have been dogging the state for so long with no solution in sight were highlighted one after another for the knowledge of the CM by different commentators.
Angami Gmc wanted the CM to “please pay my mom’s 7 month salaries. We are dying here out of poverty… can’t maintain our daily basic need.” Achet Mollier said the first and foremost job for the CM was to bring in the CBI into the fuel adulteration case, the MKR Pillai case and PDS scam and secondly to look at the pathetic road condition…” One Ravozo Medeo wanted clarification on how police training is going on in Dimapur when there was no recruitment for constable or any other post last year.
Advises and suggestions were aplenty as well.
“Work for the Nagas not for yourself Mr CM. Don’t spray water again on educated teachers whom you have miserably failed to pay their dues. Being humane is more important that human being,” commented Vezo Luruo. According to Peter Rutsa, “A very bold, trend setting, much needed initiative. Appreciate it Sir. Just hope your PR team does not handle the page. For if they do, the whole exercise is futile…”
Neiwe M Mero suggested that the CM reply to some worthy comments…and “don’t just open something and leave it like the other government projects.”
“Accountability is not just limited to state political and economic affairs. As much as it concerns me, social accountability is the most important aspect in occupying the top chair. Being accountable for the words spoken, deeds driven, action taken and reaction therein will reflect the true color of our leaders,” were the words of advice from Akho Krome Naga, who suggested that every Minister, MLA, HOD, and AHOD must join social media and hear the voice of the people.
Now trust someone to liven up the page with a little bit of sarcasm- “Ayale! So cute tey! CM is on Facebook kwa…May he listen to what our people have to say n Walk the talk…Election is near n maybe he is a little worried…my question is #Rasta #Khoi????...” wrote on commentator.
Or heartwarming comments like the one from Pretty Jamir, “Remember God, in every actions or decisions you make, that way it will make a great difference.”
One day since the launching of the CM’s social media accounts on Tuesday, he had garnered 5,355 followers on Facebook; 240 on Instagram and 144 on Twitter.
