DAYO appeals to check abnormal price escalation

Dimapur, May 12 (MExN): Taking note of “abnormal price escalation in the wholesale market in Dimapur,” the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO) observed that it is directly affecting the common people buying from retail shops with the announcement of total lockdown by the Government.

“We apprehend further price escalation,” a statement from DAYO Media Cell said while requesting the District Administration to strictly monitor availability of goods and daily monitoring of price especially for essential commodities. Those hoarders, especially wholesaler should be heavily penalized to serve as further deterrent, it demanded.

Meanwhile, the organization said that “there has been reported acute shortage of oxygen cylinders and regulator especially in Dimapur, so the District Administration should ensure normal supply as per the demand.”

The DAYO appreciated services of the frontline workers during the fight against the COVID pandemic including the medical fraternity, electricity department, ambulance services, church and civil organizations, police & civil administration along with town and village authority.

It also appealed to all the citizens of Dimapur in particular and Nagaland citizens in general to strictly follow the laid down Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) so that the war against this pandemic will be won collectively.

To the “suspected patient”, the organization appealed to self-report to medical authorities and receive proper treatment. “Let us detest from social stigmatization as it has been the biggest hindrance to win this pandemic. Our voluntary cooperation as genuine citizen is now absolutely essential for the progress and safety of the society,” it appealed.

Also acknowledging the efforts of Nagaland police in checking and controlling crimes, the DAYO impressed upon the state Government to install sufficient CCTVs in strategic locations in and around Dimapur and put more efforts to monitor crime activities and for gathering evidence.

“There are numerous porous boundaries with Assam in Dimapur area over which not only anti social elements can have easy access but even illegal trade including importing diseased livestock without any hindrances is made possible,” it stated.

The DAYO said that moreover, lockdown measures against COVID cannot be successful until such areas are properly monitored with the assistance of electronic devices.

DAYO also reaffirmed our support and cooperation with all Governmental agencies and other civil organizations in the joint effort to win this COVID war.
