Officials from the Chümoukedima district administration and NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) today conducted a joint verification of the Dimapur bypass, Chümoukedima section on November 15.

The section is under the 20.68 kilometre Nagaland portion of the Dimapur bypass of the Dimapur-Kohima 4 Lane (Package I & II) and connects National Highway 29 (39) and 36. The inspection was conducted in anticipation of the upcoming Hornbill Festival.

Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Abhinav Shivam along with Thejavizo Nakhro (Revenue Officer) conducted the inspection with officials of the NHIDCL.

They engaged in extensive discussions with the NHIDCL General Manager (P), Dimapur PMU (Project Monitoring Unit), NHIDCL, Authority's' Engineer, and the EPC Contractor to ensure a pothole-free Dimapur-Kohima 4-lane road, informed a DIPR report.

The inspection team examined several sites in the Chümoukedima section, including a dilapidated bus stop, a retaining wall and a washroom.

However, the NHIDCL officials declined to speak with the press gathered for the inspection on record. Off-record, an official said there were discussion regarding installation of street light as well as other repair works and it is expected to be undertaken by March next year.

It was learnt that the Chümoukedima district administration will be holding a press conference regarding the inspection on Thursday.

As per the project status report of NHIDCL’s websites in the corporation’s website, while the project was originally slated to be completed by September 2020, it has been delayed due to various issues including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, the “Likely date of completion/actual date of completion” is given as December 31, 2023. However, given previous precedence, it is likely to lapse. The status of the construction of Dimapur bypass (Assam portion) covering around 14.33 km has been given as December 31, 2023.
