DC Mon bans hunting of Amur Falcons 

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 14 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, Mon, Thavaseelan K, in an order has banned hunting, trapping, killing or selling of Amur Falcons for food or possession or otherwise.  In a notification, the DC expressed concern that some unscrupulous villagers have been hunting, trapping and killing Amur Falcons in Mon district. It said Amur Falcons are under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and as such, hunting, trapping, killing or selling of the raptors for food or possession or otherwise could lead to 3(three) years of imprisonment or a fine of Rs. 25,000/- or both under Section 51 of the said Act. In this connection, all Administrative officers and the Village Council under Mon district have been directed to give publicity in their respective jurisdiction and strictly enforce this order along with Police and Forest Department.
