DC Mon transforms waste area into market

Driven with the purpose to transform the dreams of people in Mon into reality, the district Deputy Commissioner W. Honje Konyak undertook the initiative of constructing a market in the Town. With the inauguration of the ‘Wahan Vegetable Market’ on September 7 at Mon Town, Honje Konyak accomplished the mission successfully.  

Speaking on the inaugural programme, the DC said that it was just a “low lying waste area” but, with the help of people in the area, now it has been transformed into a market place. He also informed that there were no fund or government sanctions for the construction of the market but it has been accomplished with the help of few individuals.  

The DC added that he wanted to set an example to the Konyak people through action, the vision he had for Mon Town.  

Meanwhile, he urged the vegetable vendors to keep the market and its surrounding area clean as their own home and to penalise the defaulters. He also urged the MTC to complete the task left incomplete without waiting for any government sanctions.  

The inaugural programme was led by Shanavas C (IAS) ADC Mon; dedicatory prayer was offered by ES, KBBB and welcome note by Ilika Zhimomi, SDO Civil Phomching. Short speeches were also given by different NGO leaders.
