Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has warned vegetable, fruits vendors that it will “not tolerate selling of chemically treated items for public consumption.” It also warned footpath vendors from selling products in an unhygienic condition.
The warning was issued through a press release from DCCI President, Akashe Zhimomi. The DCCI informed that it had accompanied the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW) in the recent inspection of food joints, bakery and ice cream unit. It maintained that it will “periodically carry such surprise checks and will further not tolerate such conditions to operate.”
“DCCI and business community will support the initiative of DoHFW in letter and spirit and request the DoHFW and DMC to extend help and assist DCCI to work out the mechanism to ensure vegetables, fruits eatables are under constant monitoring and fit for human consumption,” it stated while appreciating the “bold and humongous task of ensuring food safety and standard.”
