‘De-addiction made easy’ therapy draws flak

Kohima, August 21 (MExN): The much hype ‘De-addiction made easy’, which is slated to be launched on August 27 at Faith Hospital, Dimapur has drawn flake from two NGOs, the Lawyers Networks and Nagaland Drug Users and PLWHAs Forum as it ‘lacks holistic approach and local compatibility.’

A team comprising of the representatives of the Lawyers Networks and the Drug Users and PLWHAs today met Dr Sanjay Chugh, a Psychiatrist and the man behind the programme and Dr Kheshito, the initiator of the programme at the office chamber of the Dimapur Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent and appraised them of the adverse effects that could trigger in the Naga society both socially and economically if it is not done after a proper study.

Defending their allegations, the organizations opined that the said ‘latest advanced De-addiction therapy,’ which involve implants, lack treatment on holistic approach, involved high cost, which the needy cannot afford and there is no guarantee that the an addict would completely be safe after paying huge sum of money, no sustainability, and has little or no compatibility with the local conditions - socially and economically.

Questions were also asked as to how the said foreign technology can be brought into the state without any regulations from the government, either it be Centre or the State.

One severe danger that a person who gets the implants done might encounter is that in the event of accidents or requiring surgery, he or she cannot be administered anesthesia like Morphine as the implants would block the effect of this drug.

According to Dr Sanjay Chugh the entire treatment would cost about Rs 2.2 lakhs. The cost of implants for three months is Rs 75,000, while for the 3 hours detoxification is Rs 1.10 lakhs.

The organizations has appealed to the Faith Hospital Authority to keep the programme in abeyance unless proper verification is done and appealed to the state government to intervene and the general public to be cautious before opting for the implants blindly.
