Delay brings corruption: Imkong

Dimapur, Nov 15 (MExN): Minister for School Education Imkong L Imchen today called upon the School Education Officers not to postpone works while discharging their duties as an officer. The minister was speaking as the Chief Guest at the School education Officer’s Conference held at Highway 39 Restaurant in Pudum Pukhuri Junction here. The minister said that education is the back bone of human society and called upon the gathered officer to join hands and work together for the betterment of the society.

Speaking about the implication of procrastinating, the Chief Guest said that the word delay is simple yet having serious implications ‘Delay brings corruption’ he said and asked the education officers to be serious while discharging their works. He said that if an officers postpones in doing something, then they are delaying something which might be of vital importance like a policy or a programme. ‘I don’t delay and don’t want others to delay’, said Imkong and asked the officers gathered to consult with others if they do not understand or carry out a certain task.

The Minister also made mention of the various associations in the education department like the ANSTA and the officers Association. With regards to the teachers association, the minister said that ANSTA is a very big and registered organisation, however he said that the association should dedicate more to the students as the children belongs to them. Imchen also asked the association that if there is any problem then they should come to the authorities and discuss the matters with them. The minister assured that matters would be immediately addressed for the welfare of the society as a whole.

The minister expressed some reservation when he questioned the existence of various unions and association in the department. He questioned why there should be ‘groupism and ‘syndicateism’ and said that he belongs to the education department and not to any group or association. The minister said that he was for the whole community, and added that all employees and the associations of the department belong to the department itself; in the light of all this the minister questioned why there should be creation of what he termed as ‘groupism’.

He also expressed his reservations about the various associations when he said that the associations are playing a very commendable role in the society, but still he asked them whether they are contributing something or obstructing the good programmees of the department.   ‘I am not saying that it (the existence of associations) is bad but at the same time I am not saying that it is good…the truth lies somewhere in between’, said Imchen.

Speaking about the various cases of corruption in the department like the infamous ‘bogus appointments’, the minister said that we cannot avoid it, and added that the department has no intention of punishing any one. He however, challenged the education department officers to eradicate the stigma of corruption of the school department saying that the people are focusing on them. Imkong further asked the officers to bring in new changes in the department so that there would be no regret tomorrow. 

Other highlights of the programme were a welcome speech by Nipusilie Angami Additional Director School Education and a special number by the students of GHSS Dimapur.
