Delimitation a constitutional obligation, ‘not a petty party matter’: JAC

Dimapur, June 27 (MExN): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Tribal Hohos on Delimitation on Saturday took exception at the reported statement made by BJP National General Secretary, Ram Madhav that his party had recommended postponement of the delimitation exercise in Nagaland based on the representation of State BJP president, Temjen Imna Along and Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio.

The JAC termed it as an “insult to the Parliament of the country and also to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.”

In a press release, the JAC Publicity Cell opined that the General Secretary “should have been wiser while making such statements for the reason that delimitation is a constitutional obligation enacted by the Parliament, not a petty party matter, to ensure equal opportunity of development to all sections of the society.”

Further, it maintained that the General Secretary “seems to have forgotten” that the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister has notified the unfinished deferred task of delimitation in the States of Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. Being the General Secretary of the ruling party in the country, he “should have impressed upon the leaders of the State to abide by the policies of the Parliament and the commandment of the Constitution of the country,” the JAC said.  Instead, he seems to have forgotten that giving room to oppose or prevent parliamentary policies from implementation will only encourage deviance to vested interest sections of the society, the JAC noted.
