DIMAPUR, MARCH 11 (MExN): The Janata Dal United (JDU), Nagaland today felt that the recent announcement and formation of Delimitation Commission for the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and the UT of Jammu and Kashmir is “very much justified.”
“While the rest of the country has already completed the process of delimitation by 2008 as per the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission 2002, it has been long pending for these states,” a press release from the JDU Nagaland stated.
It therefore questioned the reaction of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), on grounds that Nagaland was exempted from the purview of the Delimitation Commission of 2002 “because of the ongoing political talks.”
“If so, is there any special notification by the Government of India to this claim? Moreover, if NDPP is so concerned about the ongoing political talk, why don’t they organise a rally or dharna in Delhi to expedite the issue instead of using the Naga Political Problem as a bait to fulfill their vested political interest by making it as one of their prominent articles in their election manifesto and abandoning it after coming to power?” the JDU Nagaland said.
The JDU reminded that as per the NDPP “tribal equity and dynamics of district representation are crucial factors which require widespread consultations.”
“If so, what are they waiting for instead of coming out in reaction to the delimitation process, they could have made it meaningful if all party meeting is convened to discuss the matter,” the party said.
The JDU suggested that “instead of getting worked up” with the announcement of Delimitation Process, an urgent all party meeting should be convened to ponder on the “frustrating delay” of the ongoing peace talk.
It further suggested that an all-party meeting must go to Delhi, organise democratic agitation and also meet the Prime Minister to serve ultimatum on the issue at hand.
