‘Demand for affiliation driven by people’s wish’

DIMAPUR, SEPT 21 (MExN): The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has reiterated the stand and the commitment taken by the Naga people and students in the four hill districts of Manipur to have a common syllabus and education system with the rest of the Naga brethren elsewhere in their land. “We will make it very clear that the affiliation movement is itself a process, a process for a change. As such it is expected that the movement will definitely face certain challenges and hurdles from various quarters. But it is also a fact that, based on the resolute stand and a clear vision of hope for the future, the movement is gaining momentum gradually”, a press communiqué issued by Paul Langhu, ANSAM President, stated.

ANSAM also took note of the concern expressed by some members in the recent Manipur Legislative Assembly session on the issue and “could also see a tinge of desperation in them in their bid to distort the facts and create confusions in the minds of people”, it stated while reaffirming its earlier statements that the movement for affiliation to the Nagaland Board of Education (NBSE) is purely orchestrated from the wishes and the will of the people.

“Therefore, the malicious statements pertaining to the issue as being carried out under threats or coercion or being imposed upon, are being propagated by the powers that be and some section of the society in Manipur state”.

ANSAM also pointed out that their latest proposal to send a ministerial delegation to the 4 Naga hill district is only a manifestation of their last desperate attempt to sabotage the movement. “Nagas should be wary of these. Debates and differences of opinion must have taken place at the start, but surely there is no division and the will of the people shall always prevail.”
