DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 10 (MExN): A demand for total bifurcation of Higher Secondary from Secondary Schools has been made by the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) in a letter addressed to the Commissioner & Secretary School Education & SCERT. The ANSTA asked the government to take prompt action for the “common interest of people in general and the Department of School Education in particular”.
Pointing out that the present time was “too complex”, the ANSTA letter stated that “both Secondary School cadres and Higher Secondary cadres are not satisfied with the present posts distribution in the restructuring process”.
Citing the need to fine-tune the education system, the ANSTA letter has spelled out the need for total bifurcation of Higher Secondary from Secondary Schools. “This is the most urgent need of the department in order to function independently and in healthy manner”, stated the letter signed by ANSTA President Ponchulo Wanth and General Secretary P. Vashum wherein a six point justification was given.
Subsequently the ANSTA has also called for two Directors for Secondary and Elementary schools pointing out that it was pertinent to have 2 Directors, one for secondary to look after 226 GHS and the other for elementary to look after 750 GMS and 1800 GPS respectively. The ANSTA has justified this by citing the erstwhile PWD Department, which has now 5 Chief Engineers equivalent to Director and one Engineer- in- Chief equivalent to Secretary having strength of 8000 employees only.
“The School Education having nearly 25000 employees can have more Directors if the Government really cares for its Educational System and Human Resource Development. Moreover, with the coming of RTE & Introduction of CCE, Elementary Education has adopted a different system of education for which its management has to be different from the other two sections. Hence, a fully fledged Elementary Director is most essential”, the ANSTA letter to the government stated.
The letter pointed out that the above mentioned demands in no way serve the special interest of any section of the employees but was for the common interest of all stake holders keeping in view the norm, practicability and smooth sailing of the entire School education machinery in the State.
The ANSTA has stated that failure to meet the demands may compel the Association to resort to certain democratic form of protest.
