Deplorable roads in Nagaland cry for attention

• Union Minister plead for improvement and up-gradation of road conditions

• Urgent need for rehabilitation of old and weak bridges stated

• Reiterate request for construction of Foothill Road on phase manner  

Dimapur, July 18 (MExN): A team from Nagaland led by Minister, Public Works Department, Tongpang Ozukum met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari at Transport Bhawan, New Delhi on July 17.  

During the meeting with the Union Minister, Tongpang Ozukum discussed issues regarding the improvement and up-gradation of roads in the State which are in deplorable conditions. Attention of the Union Minister was also drawn towards the urgent need for rehabilitation of old and weak bridges in the State, a press note issued by Kuolie Mere, PRO (IPR), Nagaland House, New Delhi stated.  

The Minister and his team also reminded the Union Minister about the construction of two-lane Trans Nagaland Highway (Foothill Road) to be taken up on phase manner, which was earlier appraised by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Dy. Chief Minister Y. Patton to the Prime minister and the concern Minister incharge of MoRTH.  

The Union Minister after patiently hearing the grievances shared by the Minister and his colleagues responded positively that the Ministry is willing to extend all the help but strongly sounded/appealed that land should be available and there should not be any hindrance developmental activities. He also advised that acquisition of land should be the look out of the State Government.  

The Minister team includes Temjen Imna Along Minister, H. Khehovi Yepthomi Advisor and Chingwang Konyak Chairman People's Democratic Alliance (PDA).
