Kohima, August 31 (MExN): The Department of Posts has introduced a new category of sales force, termed "Other Departmental Employee" (ODE), aimed at expanding the outreach of Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI).
Under the new provision, serving Central Government and State Government employees—excluding personnel of the Department of Posts—holding posts up to Level-8 of the Pay Matrix are eligible for engagement as ODEs to procure PLI and RPLI business.
The initiative seeks to leverage business potential across various government departments, broaden the footprint of postal life insurance services among eligible beneficiaries including the rural populace, and support the Centre's "Viksit Bharat" vision.
According to official guidelines, the engagement is entirely voluntary and does not establish an employer-employee relationship with the Department of Posts. ODEs will be mandated to source business strictly outside their official working hours, adhering to instructions issued by the PLI Directorate.
For their services, ODEs will receive procurement and renewal incentives on par with the rates applicable to the Departmental Employee (DE) category, subject to periodic amendments.
In Nagaland, the move offers an opportunity for willing government personnel—one from each department or office at the block level—to assist in promoting postal insurance schemes beyond their regular official duties.
