Dept of Sociology SJC celebrates silver jubilee

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): The Department of Sociology, St Joseph’s College (SJC) (Autonomous) celebrated silver jubilee on November 27 at the College Indoor Stadium under the theme ‘Sociologically Imagining Beyond the Boundaries.’
Guest Speaker Mnhonlumo Kikon, MLA and Advisor, Information Technology and Communication, Science and Technology, NRE Nagaland in his speech highlighted the challenges of the society and encouraged the students to try and solve those issues. He then urged them to widen their knowledge and field of studies beyond the confines of the Naga society.
The programme commenced with an invocation by Rev Fr Dr Joy Thomas. Lighting of jubilee lamp was done by the dignitaries. Welcome address was delivered by Rev Fr Dr Sebastian Oussepparampil, Principal, SJC (Autonomous). Dr Medonuo Pienyu, HOD highlighted a brief history, achievements and vision of the department.
Tribute was paid to Late Rev Fr Dr Alphonsus D’ Souza (Founder of Department of Sociology) and to all the past staff and student.
The Department of Sociology, SJC (A) was established in 1994, with its motto “To Excel and to Serve.”
The department has over the course of 25 years has produced several university rank holders. It also conducts field research and organises charity activities under the slogan, “Sociology Gives Back,” funded by the students. At present, the department is also offering post graduate programme.
