‘Devise ways of ensuring safety and security of women’

Dimapur, December 16 (MExN): The North East Support Centre & Helpline today urged the National Women Commission (NCW) to conduct a thorough survey of working women in Haryana and devise steps to ensure the safety and security of the working women from distant parts of the India in the state. 

A press statement issued by the spokesperson NESC&H, Madhu Chandra said that the Centre has been compelled the to sought the attention of the NCW after one Manipuri lady, staying at a house in the DLF area of Gurgaon, Haryana, who is taking a course in beauty care reported to the NESC&H of harassment by her landlord and the repeated sexual advances by the landlord’s son, the latest being on the night of December 11. 

The release said that when the victim, her sister and her other friends protested against the landlord, they were driven out of the home, without even allowing them to take their belongings. 

The release stated that when the NESC&H took up the matter; not only were the police officer indifferent towards the matter and refused register the case, but also the  assailants and his friends were at the police station persuading the Centre to ignore the matter.   

The release informed that the matter was registered by the SHO only after much persuasion.

However, the release pointed out that the matter is far more serious and deserves the concern of the National Commission for Women, and therefore requested the NCW to make a thorough survey o the working women in Haryana and devise steps, in conjunction with the police and the government to ensure the safety and security of the working women from distant parts of India.
