“IN ORDER TO FEEL the pulse of the jawans and at the same time to listen to their problems and suggestions before settling down in office, I am making a visit to all districts in the state,” DGP K Kire, IPS, said during his maiden visit around the state after assuming office of the highest Police post. DGP Kire today interacted with the jawans at the DEF Kiphire before leaving for Tuensang.
Interacting with The Morung Express Correspondent, the visiting officer said that due to heavy official assignments, he could make it only this time and admitted that it was also in a hurry explaining that it is taxing to leave the office even for a few days. Responding to the question of not having any Police check post in the entire district, the DGP said that temporary check post can be erected as per situation on consultation with the DC and SP. “However, for permanent check post, the government has to sanction, then approve and has to en-route Finance department for clearance. These are the problems to erect permanent check post. Population, crime rate, etc. are also taken into consideration, but Kiphire may get one soon,” Kire added.
Replying to the issue of infrastructural development for DEF Kiphire and the basic problems faced by the jawans, DGP Kire said, “Very little amount is received from the state under non-plan and more concentration is being given on ration and dress, so no much developmental activities can be taken up.” He also said that funds are received for modernisation of the Police force but lot of things like motor vehicles, wireless set, arms, etc. are to be procured from that amount, and therefore, construction works cannot be taken up.
Talking about developmental activities to be taken up in the field of sports for DEF, the DGP, who is also a sportsman, assured that “if the jawans are interested”, he would be there to pick them up any time adding that he was ready to get himself involved to promote sports activities for the jawans. The visiting officer was also introduced to some of the grievances faced by jawans in the DEF Kiphire, including providing of bus service, ambulance, barrack and better arms, among others.
The SP Kiphire, reacting to the DGP’s visit expressed hope that the visiting officer would address the problems faced by the DEF since he had now seen for himself the problems faced by the jawans. Earlier, the office of the SP Kiphire had submitted a representation to the DGP regarding improvement of infrastructure, upgrading of more posts for Police personnel at DEF Kiphire, erecting of Police check post, and deployment of more mistrial staff, etc. It may be mentioned that DGP K Kire, IPS, is the first and only DGP to visit Kiphire while holding office.
