Kohima, September 10 (MExN): As part of the 100 Days Campaign under SANKALP, the district administration, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Kohima, held an awareness session on sexual and reproductive health at Modern School on September 10.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khriesituonuo Liezietsu, Medical Officer, Tuophema, noted that discussions on sexual and reproductive health are considered taboo in Naga society. However, she called for more openness in dealing with these issues and urged girls to visit health clinics instead of relying on self-diagnosis through the internet.
Dr. Liezietsu also highlighted how puberty brings about emotional and physical changes and how it affects adolescents, especially girls, during menstruation.
She emphasized that every girl or woman has the right over her own body and provided a brief explanation of good and bad touch.
Additionally, the doctor discussed various contraceptives available, the dangers of STDs, and their effects on girls and women.
The importance of pre- and post-natal care, as well as the dangers of unsafe abortions, was also addressed in the programme chaired by Kesoneinuo, Gender Specialist, DHEW, Kohima.
