Officials along with the winners of the 6th G Rio Trophy Men’s U19 Inter-District Tournament 2026 held at Sovima Cricket Ground, Chümoukedima on March 26.
Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): Dimapur were crowned champions of the 6th G Rio Trophy Men’s U19 Inter-District Tournament 2026 after defeating Kohima by 5 wickets in the final at Sovima Cricket Ground, Chümoukedima.
In a low-scoring contest, Dimapur’s bowlers set up the win by dismissing Kohima for 74 runs in 26.2 overs. Kohima, who opted to bat after winning the toss, struggled to build partnerships against a disciplined bowling attack. Imkongtemsu top-scored with 17 off 58 balls.
Yashimeren Jamir (3/9), Samir Ali (3/14) and Raja Kumar (3/20) shared nine wickets between them to dismantle the Kohima innings.
Chasing 75, Dimapur reached 77/5 in 23.3 overs. Shivam led the chase with 18 off 35 balls as the side crossed the target despite a few middle-order setbacks. For Kohima, Solomon Awungshi (3/14) and Sangtsulen Tshunlerii (2/28) picked up wickets but could not defend the total. Yashimeren Jamir was named Player of the Match for his bowling performance in the final.
In the tournament awards, Dimapur finished as champions while Kohima were runners-up. Solomon Awungshi was named Player of the Tournament. Aloto Sumi of Chümoukedima received the Best Batsman award, while Medempok Pongen of Dimapur was adjudged Best Bowler. Tachuye Trakha of Kohima was named Best Wicketkeeper.
The tournament concluded with participation from multiple districts, showcasing emerging youth cricketers and competitive fixtures across the state.
