Officials of malaria department, DMC advisors and GBs during the launch programme of Anti-Malaria Month 2011 cum distribution of long lasting Insecticides Nets held in the conference hall of Dimapur Municipal Council on June 15.
Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): The Launching programme of Anti-Malaria Month 2011 cum distribution of long lasting Insecticides Nets (LLIN) was held this morning in the conference hall of Dimapur Municipal Council.
The chief guest of the programme was Er. Keneilhoulie Keditsu, Chief Advisor, Dimapur Municipal Council and the programme was chaired by Dr. N. Simon Dzuvichu, Assistant Director, Urban Malaria Scheme (NVBDCP). The chief guest gave away some medically treated bed-nets to DMC sweepers besides distributing 300 each to six wards selected by the department under DMC. Distribution to remaining wards will be done in the next phase. Wards Nos 4, 11, 14, 15, 16 and 22 benefited from the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest observed that public have the habit of blaming the government but it is the public who many a time, due to their ignorance, fail to avail the facilities provided by the government. He lamented that despite prior information given to the GBs to collect the nets for the beneficiaries, their delay to turn up for the said programme shows their ignorance.
Er. Keditsu said that government including DMC is giving much importance to health and hygiene but Dimapur, the chief guest said is confronted with man-made inundation which is because of rampant dumping of garbage/wastes into the drains by the public and also because of encroachment over drainages. He was of the view that Dimapur should maintain proper hygiene in order to be able to control vector borne diseases and which is a responsibility of all concerned including general public. He therefore urged the people to join hands to maintain cleanliness in Dimapur.
Delivering keynote address, Dr. Ritu Thur, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur said that malaria is not medical problem but it is purely social and humanly problem and it will remain with us. It is equal responsibility of all to deal with the problem. Dr. N. Simon presented brief introduction on anti-malaria month and use of LLINs. Lepshi Ao, advisor, DMC delivered welcome address while Talisangba, Entomologist, NVBDCP (DPO) proposed vote of thanks.
