Dimapur, March 12 (DIPR): The Excise Department in Dimapur realised an amount of Rs. 32,45,500 through fines during the period from January 2015 to December 2015 and the same was deposited to the State Exchequer.
This was revealed by an Excise official during the monthly District Planning and Development Board meeting of Dimapur held on March 11 in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur. The meeting was chaired by Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation & Flood Control Jacob Zhimomi, who is also the Chairman of DPDB Dimapur.
Giving the departmental presentation, the Excise official also highlighted the shortage of manpower as one of the main constraints of the department.
When queried by the DPDB Chairman as to how the Excise Department was taking action against the hotels in Dimapur which are serving liquor, the official cited inadequate manpower, lack of conveyance and security of the personnel as the main hindrances for failure of the department.
With regard to issuing of license, he replied that the department is not the issuing authority and the same is being issued by DMC. He also informed that seized articles are destroyed periodically.
The Department of Soil & Water Conservation also gave their departmental presentation and highlighted various schemes taken up by the department. The schemes implemented by the department are Integrated Land Development Project under NAPARD, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana or CSS Scheme, Integrated Water Shed Management Project (IWMP) state sector, Stream Bank Erosion Control (state sector) and plantation of lime for sustainable agricultural production. The department further informed the house that presently the state sponsored schemes are put on hold due to severe fund constraints.
In the meeting, the Board approved opening of two new schools - Government Primary School, Ghokito Village, Kuhuboto, Dimapur and Beanstalk School Lengrijan, Dimapur based on the verification report of the sub-committee. The Board also approved for recognition of Spring Field School, Ruzaphema Block III, Dimapur, up-gradation of GMS, Chekiye to GHS and District Evaluation Study on Hotel Management in Dimapur District.
