
Dimapur, January 22 (MExN): The Excise Department Dimapur recovered 677 cases Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and arrested two persons in separate operations on the night of January 22.
As per an official release, the first recovery was made at around 8PM when Dimapur District Excise party during its regular checkgate duty at Dillai intercepted a truck.
On frisking the vehicle, the duty party led by Tonika Awomi A.I.E, Kavito H/C, constables Lithrichem, Jungshi, Akho, Chingjei, Leihong, Lutachu, Haotinmang and lady constable Keyirangzaile, recovered 197 cases of assorted IMFL stacked beneath sacks of industrial bottle raw material, it said.
In this connection, one Kiran Singh of Wangching under Thoubal of Manipur was arrested.
In another operation during the same night at around 9:30 PM at Newfield checkgate, a duty party led by Allen Jami A.I.E, TK Medom lady H/C, Khekavi H/C, constables Akahoto, Thejong, Khalenthong, Tsathongli, Thrilise, Wati and lady constable Sorila, also intercepted a truck and recovered 480 cases of assorted IMFL.
The IMFL concealed were concealed under furniture and household goods, the release informed, adding that one Deva Singh, a resident New Keithelmanbi, Imphal West, Manipur was arrested in connection with the recovery.
On preliminary inquiry, both the accused admitted that the contraband was loaded at Guwahati and was bound for Imphal, Manipur and the case is under investigation, added the release from the Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur.
