Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) on Friday observed 73rd Gorkha Martyr’s Day in commemoration of Major Durga Malla (INA) cum Blood Donation Drive Camp at Darogapathar with Parliamentary Secretary, IT & C, DAN Chairman, Dr. Longriniken as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Longri lauded the Gorkha community for their yeoman service in organizing blood donation drive every year on the same day thereby saving the lives of many people. He encouraged them to continue with their social service.
He also pointed out that the Gorkhas were honest and hardworking and urged them to contribute towards the progress and development of the state
DGU Chairman, Kumar Subba spoke about the genuine demand for Gorkhaland and added that it was time for the West Bengal Government to return the land to the rightful owners.
Dr. Temsu, Senior Specialist & Incharge of Blood Bank, District Hospital Dimapur who has been associated with the blood donation drive of the DGU said that the Union has in the past seven years donated 980 units of blood.
Darogapathar Village Council Chairman, L. Jamir said that blood donation was the highest form of humanitarian service and encouraged the Gorkhas to continue with their social service.
The programme was marked with songs and cultural presentations by the Gorkha community. 106 units of blood were donated by the Gorkha union Dimapur today.
