Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): A state level workshop under the theme ‘National Higher Education Qualification Framework under NEP-2020 & Four Year Undergraduate Programme under Nagaland University’ was organised by Department of Commerce and IQAC, Dimapur Government College (DGC) in the seminar hall, DGC on June 16. 

The workshop saw 55 participants in total, with the participation of 13 commerce colleges from all over the state, stated a press release from the college. 

Chaired by Biswajit Sarkar, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, the 1st Session started with a short speech from Prof Sanjay Sharma, Principal, DGC.             

Dr Gautam Patikar, Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, NU as the resource person spoke on ‘National Higher Education Qualification Framework under NEP-2020.’ Stating that, the NEP-2020 is rightly trying to create a modern education system with a blend of ancient learning and values, he highlighted the reasons for the necessary change in the Education System as well as on the prime aims of NEP-2020.

Dr Gautam stated that NEP-2020 with its motto of the 3Es (Educate, Encourage and Enlighten) and 4 Basic Principles (Equity, Access, Quality and Accountability) aims to provide a robust, holistic, dynamic, flexible and universal learning outcome to the students. It was also stated that Teachers under the NEP-2020 will have to act as mentors to the students and aim to impart skills of Logical Thinking, Self-motivation, Information Gathering & Research and Organisational Panning. The 1stsession ended with Dr Gautam reiterating that the Heart of NEP-2020 is – ‘Multidiscipline.’

Chaired by Imkongmenla Longkumer, Assistant Professor, DGC, the 2nd Session saw two resource persons Professor PK Deka and Dr Ratan Kaurinta on the topic, ‘Four Year Undergraduate Programme under Nagaland University.’ Here, the structures of the FYUP under NU with the papers along with associated credits were displayed as well as several proposed papers which may be subject to change were highlighted. The session ended with the resource persons reiterating that the approach is on ‘skill development with multiple entry and exit points.’

The interactive session saw the participation of the audience where several questions were put forward which were simultaneously clarified by the resource persons. Several points were also taken note of by the resource persons, which needed to be put up to the University for clarity/correction. 

The workshop ended with a note of thanks by Jimokali Zhakheto Zhimomi, Secretary, IQAC. Zuchobeni E Lotha, Asst. Professor, Commerce, DGC was the Rapporteur.
