Dimapur joins global community to advocate ‘toilets for all’

Dimapur, November 19 (MExN): World Toilet Day, an annual international observance marked by the United Nations to create awareness on open defecation and good sanitary practices was observed at Showuba (old) Kuhuboto subdivision today under the theme, “Leaving no one behind” drawing attention to those people being left behind without sanitation and the consequences of inaction on social, economic and environmental aspects.
A press release stated here that Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, PHED (Rural) division Dimapur, Imojungla Longkumer spoke on the significance of World Toilet Day and shared Sustainable Development Goal 6 target to eliminate open defecation and ensure access to sustainable sanitation services by 2030, with special reference to women, girls and vulnerable sections.
Following up on the theme SDO, Kuhuboto Er R Imtisowa initiated to construct toilets for two most deserving aged persons from the host village, with material support by the department in collaboration with the community on the occasion.
Earlier in the day, social work and individual household cleaning was carried out to observe the day.
The programme was organized by PHED Rural Division, Dimapur and sponsored by WSSO, PHED, Kohima.
