Kohima, November 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) while ruing the condition of the Dimapur-Kohima road and other issues today cautioned that if no action is taken before December 1, 2017, it will be constrained to take the next step.
“Appreciating” the “slow progress” of four-lane work along Dimapur-Kohima road, a press statement from NPCC president, K Therie stated that the stretch of road has become “intolerable”.
He pointed out that the journey normally took two hours in the past, but today, passengers have to suffer for 3 to 4 hours.
“The road itself has become a danger because of mud which makes it slippery during rains and because of the blinding dust when dry. Further, potholes have disabled small cars. Few heavy vehicles have even slipped below the road. No stretch of road is fit.”
Pointing out that the road being the lifeline for two States, every day over a thousand vehicles travel, the statement maintained that it is the responsibility of contractors to ensure service of roads. “It is also the responsibility of contractors to give pollution free road and mend the potholes they have created. The air pollution created by the dusty roads has affected all roadside hoteliers and dwellers. It has become unfit to live in,” it added.
NPCC maintained it is also the duty of BRO to ensure that normal activities are not disturbed. “Knee-deep potholes between Dimapur and Chumukedima and pollution created by the roads should be immediately corrected,” it stated, adding “Government of Nagaland should not remain a helpless spectator.” All the agencies should be geared up to restore the road, it said. Meanwhile, it lamented that the entire stretch of road has hardly any proper drainage.
Criticizing the dismantling of Walford Bridge in Dimapur “without time frame work plan,” it alleged the Government has no concern for the public inconvenience. Half Nagarajan Bridge should be repaired for light vehicles immediately, it demanded.
“Administration should be responsible in their respective jurisdictions to ensure road safety, security and cleanliness. Stone quarries should not be allowed to disturb the road,” NPCC added.
