Jan Aushadhi stores struggle due to lack of vendors, public awareness
Dimapur, March 10 (MExN): Dimapur District observed Jan Aushadhi Diwas at District Hospital Dimapur on March 7. Jan Asuhandhi is a scheme initiated by the government to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices to the public, an update received here stated.
Dr Keveduyi Theyo, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur in his keynote address stated that the day was observed to spread awareness about the scheme and promote the use and benefits of generic drugs. Jan Aushadhi stores have been set up in public hospitals to provide generic drugs, which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent to more expensive branded drugs in both quality and efficacy, the release stated.
Dr Theyo also said, “Though District hospital has been trying to run Jan Aushadhi store, it has been unsuccessful mainly due to lack of local vendors to provide quality generic drugs at nominal rates and due to lack of public awareness of such schemes and the benefits of generic drugs.” He, however, assured that “the facility will be restored to its optimal operating conditions, and ensures effective management and operation.”
Dr Temsu Longkumer, Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur in his address stated that Dimapur District Hospital has always been providing services to the public especially to the poor and downtrodden sections of the society.
Having worked in District Hospital Dimapur for many years himself, Dr Temsu noted that the “standout quality of District Hospital Dimapur is its ability to acknowledge and work within its limitations, while simultaneously tackling challenges head-on with unwavering determination and vigour.”
He highlighted the Jan Aushadhi Store as an additional challenge facing the hospital, and exhorted the officers and staff to rise to this new challenge with their characteristic determination and energy, and explore solutions to restore its full functionality.
The programme was chaired by Dr Sentirenla Jamir, Nodal Officer, Jan Aushadhi, District Hospital Dimapur and invocation prayer was led by Chaplain, DH Chapel Dimapur.
