In what the police termed as a “classic cat and mouse chase,” four persons were arrested on November 13 with drugs, cash and a firearm after a team of Dimapur police intercepted a vehicle on suspicion of fake registration. 


The items were stumbled upon following a series of “terraced investigation,” Dimapur Police said in an update on its official Facebook page. 


According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the team intercepted a Mahindra Scorpio on NH 29. The vehicle (WB74J 1171) was suspected to be “stolen.”


“On interrogation of the occupants, unaccounted cash of Rs.3 lakhs 10 thousand was then detected inside the vehicle,” it said.  


Subsequently, a raid was conducted in the 4th mile area wherein “23 packets of suspected heroin, 90 sachets of yaba/party drugs tablet and one.22 calibre pistol were seized,” it added. 


Meanwhile, a press release from Dimapur Police PRO, informed that the suspected heroin were neatly packed in 23 soap cases. 


In addition, there were 90 packets of ‘Yaba tablets’ totaling approximately 18000 tablets.


The pistol (country made) was with one magazine.


All the four arrested persons hail from Manipur's Senapati district, the PRO release said. They were identified as Kangba Maram (35 years) of Maram village, Pavi Poumai (25 years) and Sho Poumai (28 years) of Phaibung village, and Daphru Poumai (38 years) of Zeme village.


A case has been registered at Diphupar police station in Dimapur and investigation is on, it added. 

 

3 arrested for illegal collections 

In another unrelated case, the release said that Dimapur police on November 13 arrested one Hika Achumi (37 years), a resident of Purana Bazar Dimapur for “collecting illegal tax from Manipur registered trucks.”


He was collecting the tax in the name of the Petroleum and Land Transport Workers Federation of India near the DMC Toll booth at Burma Camp, it said. 


Cash amounting to Rs.950 and tax coupon of the PLTWFI and one ID card were seized from his possession,” it added. A case was registered at East PS and investigation was on. 


Meanwhile, the PRO release also informed that on November 14, the police arrested two persons while they were “extorting from auto drivers at Purana Bazaar near the SBI Bank."


The police recovered 3 NSCN (R) “thikadar tax receipt, 1 GPRN Non-local work permit, and 4 GPRN/NSCN (R) ministry of chaplee affairs tax slip,” the release said. 


The arrested persons were identified as Daniel Gurung alias Anand (20 years) a residentof Purana Bazaar Dimapur and Samuel Ahmed alias Luhit (20 years), a resident of Model Colony, Purana Bazaar. 


Accordingly, a case has been registered at East PS and further investigation was on, it added.
