The Dimapur State Stadium witnessed a never before seen, one of a kind event as the Dimapur Police conducted a mock riot drill. Conducted in public domain for the first time, the Dimapur Police said that such drills are conducted at regular intervals though in smaller scales to test the level of efficiency of the personnel.

Thursday’s exercise involved some 150-200 personnel fully equipped with anti-riot gear and munitions, including a water cannon. Though the Nagaland state police are still to raise a full-fledged anti-riot unit, the PRO of the Dimapur police commented, “It is our endeavour to train as many jawans as possible in riot control tactics.” Tear gas shells and blank rounds were used during the drill.
With the memory of March 5, 2015 still fresh, the PRO said that the Dimapur is prepared and will continue to prepare for any kind of public disorder. According to the PRO, the state police have been supplied with sufficient anti-riot equipments and munitions at par in quality with the kind used by the Delhi Police. Supply part aside, training the personnel to use the equipments is crucial, it was added.
At present, the Dimapur Police has a two platoon-strength riot response unit.
