Explore mechanisms to ease current problems
Dimapur, May 7 (MExN): The Dimapur Police, on Saturday, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-I, Vilhousie Peseyie held an interactive session with Dimapur based business community at the office of the Commissioner of Police.
A press note from ADCP/PRO, Dimapur Police informed that the objective of the meeting was to have an informal discussion on the current problems being faced by the business communities and mechanisms through which the Police can improve their services.
The Police side included all ADCP/ACP and other field Officers including the Officer in Charges of all Police Stations while the business communities were represented by Dimapur Chambers of Commerce and Industries;
Chumukedima Chamber of Commerce; East Dimapur Business Association; Business Association of Nagaland; Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association; Hazi Park Market Association; and various Associations and entrepreneurs. According to the PRO, during the interaction various business bodies were vocal of the rampant extortion currently prevailing in the market.
In this connection, the house agreed that lack of stringent legislation has act as a obstacle to tackle the issue of extortion.
Stating that most of the arrested persons are out on bail within no time under the current law, the business communities said this act as a source of discouragement for them to come forward with their complaints.
In its part the police highlighted that 31 cases under extortion has been registered in the district of Dimapur in the current year and 37 persons arrested in these connections, the PRO said.
The Police also expressed regret that the Crime Helpline which is operational as demanded by the business communities are not being utilized by them, it added.
In this connection, the PRO said that during the course of interaction, the house discussed the difficulties faced by the respective agencies and the need to co-operate with one another.
While the police called for timely information and being forthcoming with complaints, the business communities also pointed areas where the police can improve and gain their confidence, it further informed.
Meanwhile, the PRO further said that most speakers agreed that while extending their support for the reconciliation processing initiated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), the process has also led to the various factions of the NPGs claiming legitimacy and thus, multiple taxation.
“The current situation called for a coordinated and collective step to tackle the problem instead of blaming the inactions of one another.”
