Dimapur Police nab one for pilfering LPG from Atoizu-bound truck

Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): The Dimapur Police has arrested one person for pilfering domestic LPG from an Atoizu-bound truck and selling the same along the way.  

A press release from the PRO, Dimapur Police informed that the accused, one Amrit Debnath from Hojai district Assam, incidentally the driver of the truck transporting the LPG bound for customers in Atoizu under Zunheboto District, was arrested by the Police on July 21 and charged with “criminal pilferage.”  

According to the Police, the modus operandi of the accused was simple. After loading the filled 306 cylinders from the LPG bottling plant at 7 Mile on July 18, he parked the truck on a roadside in the National Highway -29 and started selling them.   Debnath sold 28 cylinders at Rs 700 each to various customers for three days consecutively, the release informed.  

“On receipt of the empty gas cylinders he refilled the empty cylinders from the already filled cylinders with the aid of a twin nozzle pipe apparatus. After this improvised refill, he then illegally secured the cylinder valves with the safety cap and a plastic seal,” it added.  

He was arrested on the fourth day.  

Following his arrest, the Dimapur Police also seized 3 bare safety caps, 31 safety caps with plastic seals, 8 plastic rolls and 2 nozzle pipes from his possession.  

In this connection, a case has been registered in Chumukedima PS under IPC and the Essential Commodities Act and the police are conducting further investigation, the release informed.
