DIMAPUR, MAY 3 (MExN): The Dimapur Police has issued a clarification regarding the continued enforcement of the one-way traffic system along NL Road up to the Holy Cross School junction, following concerns raised by sections of traders, residents and commuters.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the police acknowledged the public feedback and clarified that while the one-way system was initially introduced in October 2024 to facilitate rehabilitation work on the Road Over Bridge (ROB), its continuation beyond the reopening of the ROB in February 2025 is based on a traffic assessment and public safety considerations.
According to the Dimapur Police, the one-way system since its implementation has significantly improved the peak hour traffic flow at important junctions within the city, a reduction in head-on collisions in key junctions, safer pedestrian movement near high footfall zones such as schools and markets and improved traffic dispersal towards key corridors including Supermarket, MP Road and Eros Lane.
The police noted that while the inconvenience caused to some individuals is acknowledged, the system has yielded broader benefits to overall mobility and public safety within the city.
It also informed that a fresh traffic audit is currently underway to evaluate conditions following the completion of ROB works. The Dimapur Police said any changes made will be evidence based and aimed at long relief for all the road users.
