Dimapur ready to face any COVID-19 eventuality: DC

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 15 (MExN): Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh  Soundararajan, IAS, today affirmed that with the support and cooperation rendered by all the stakeholders,  Dimapur  is ready to face any eventuality as far as COVID-19 is concerned.

He said this while addressing a joint meeting of the District Task Force for COVID-19 and the District Task Force for COVID-19 vaccination, on January 15 at the conference hall of DC’s office. 

With the consistent surge in the number of cases in Dimapur during the last couple of days, the DC informed that testing and surveillance at all entry gates, railway stations and airport has been intensified.

Attributing high percentage of COVID-19 positive cases from amongst the returnees, the DC requested the stakeholders, particularly the village authorities to ensure strict home quarantine and proper monitoring of the returnees in their respective jurisdictions. On the issue for need of manpower raised by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dimapur, he informed that employees would be drawn from different departments to help the CMO office in the Monitoring and Surveillance Cell.

With regard to vaccination, the Dimapur DC observed that Dimapur district was a front runner and expressed appreciation to all the stakeholders while soliciting their continued support. He also appreciated the tireless efforts of the private hospitals during the 1st and 2nd waves and called upon them for supplementing their efforts when situation arises. He added that more infrastructures would be put in place and activated as and when need arises.

Reminding one and all not to be complacent about the Omicron variant, the Dimapur DC re-iterated for COVID-19 appropriate behaviour to be followed and said that it was the collective responsibility of all to contain the pandemic.

Meanwhile, giving an overview of the COVID-19 situation of Dimapur district, the CMO Dimapur informed that from the beginning of the year, there are 506 positive cases, out of which 8 patients have been admitted in the hospital with moderate symptoms. Out of 366 tests done in the airport, 306 tested positive accounting for 64% from amongst the returnees. He also informed that contact tracing for elderly and persons with co morbidity would continue.

District Immunization Officer, Dr Rebecca further informed that as of January 13, 27% vaccination has been administered to 15 to 18 years age group. A total of 5,15 769  vaccination doses have been administered so far, she informed.

In the meeting it was also informed that Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization would be administered on February 27.
