Dimapur, January 10 (MExN): Taking note of the “prevailing situation” in Dimapur, elaborate security measures have been put in place as corrective and preventive steps. Dimapur Superintendent of Police, SR Saravanan, IPS, today issued a press release highlighting the security measures. Some of the measures also highlight the activation of the police emergency number 100, checking movement of illegal arms as well as “confidential building measures” in the commercial areas of the city. Mention may be made here that increasing reports of kidnappings for ransom by underground elements have been made. Any instance of extortion or other complaints should be immediately informed to the numbers 227607 (East Police Station), 232181 (West Police Station), 243194 (Diphupar Police Station), 232198 (Suburban Police Station), 230645 (GRPS), 247227 (Medziphema Police Station), 100, 228400 (Police Control room) and 232106 (Traffic Control).
A joint control room has been established manned by the CRPF, Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police in PCR, Dimapur for close coordination and information-sharing. “Confidential-building measures” are being taken in the commercial and residential areas of the city. Joint patrolling and mobile check posts (Motor Vehicle Check Posts) are in place by the police, IRB and central paramilitary forces in various locations round the clock.
The CRPF will be manning check gates along with the police to check smuggling of contraband ganja and illegal arms. The city has been divided into blocks. Each block is supervised by gazetted police officers.
